Quantitative research
Quantitative research is numerically oriented and usually involves statistical analysis of the data collected. It typically involves large numbers of interviews, using mainly structured questionnaires. It is used to measure how many people think, feel or act in a particular way.
SMS is experienced in collecting data through all these methodologies:
- Face to face interviews; on street, in home and in office
- Central location interviews
- Online research
- Telephone interviews
- Postal studies
Face to face interviews

SMS frequently use face to face interviewing for research projects, using paper based questionnaires or CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing). SMS is very experienced in conducting door to door interviews. We can cover most areas in the UK. We carry out a large number of in home product placements across the UK in order to evaluate either new or existing products. These placements are co-ordinated through our large warehousing facility on-site.
Clinical testing

SMS have a subsidiary company based in the centre of Reading called Seen & Sound. This office is a Viewing Facility, recently refurbished and which also has a clinical facility with air conditioning and de-humidifier units installed. There are hand basins and 2 deep leg basins for clinical studies and hair studies. Central location studies can be undertaken from this very busy site, as well as pre-recruitment for a variety of market research projects. The team of interviewers in this area are experienced in pre-recruitment for various types of research and several are fully trained in product applications.
